From before birth, our children’s brains begin to process language, attuning themselves to the sounds of their particular tongue, decoding meaning, building their ability to communicate. Studies show that the amount of language a child is exposed to in the first three years of life will affect a child’s overall development and life long achievement.

“Parent Chats” on Positive Disciplining

Smart Beginnings SHR’s Board of Directors is fortunate to have Dr. Katherine Kersey of Old Dominion University as one of its members. Dr. Kersey is an early childhood expert and has been instrumental in developing a “Parent Chat” program throughout the community focused on the principles of positive discipline.
